01 – EARLY DAYS : Book & Author

Front cover.

If followers express an interest, I plan to post extracts from George Kenny’s little book published in 2013. George moved with his parents from Port Arthur in 1932 to where the town of Geraldton would soon be established. He tells his story from the perspective of a child. We readers learn what he learns about this brand new mining community. At the end of each post, I pose some questions to promote discussion.

BIO ON BACK COVER:

“George Kenny, 82 [in 2013], was born in Port Arthur, Ontario . A gold mine worker’s

son, Kenny lived many different lives: a laborer on a farm, a railway section

hand, a forest ranger, a prospector in northern Ontario and he has even cycled

through Europe. He taught for 25 years and transitioned to furniture-making,

eventually opening his own shop. Always on the move, Kenny moved to a

position working with a wood canvas canoe maker and later retired. He now

lives in an old farmhouse beside his daughter’s farm in southern Quebec.”

DO YOU REMEMBER . . .

(a) George Kenny?

(b) George’s father’s partner George Delbright?
